Activities in the LMC

Young Authors

Each year during January and February, children have the opportunity to participate in the Young Authors program. This program is intended to promote literacy by developing children's writing habits. Children create books, and a school representative attends the Young Authors Conference at ISU in Normal Illinois during May.

Book Fairs

Our fall book fair (the Literacy Fair) features a wide selection of hardcover and softcover books, including many great gift ideas. Sounds like a commercial, doesn’t it? It is. This fair is also the LMC fundraiser.

Reading Incentives

Through an incentive offered by Six Flags Theme Parks, Gators can earn free tickets to Six Flag's Great America. As you can see, in Gator country, we take reading seriously.

Ozzie's Reading Club is another incentive we offered this year. This incentive program is hosted by the Kane County Cougars. What better way to get ready for spring?

Here is a brief run-down of all our reading incentives, which will begin after winter break.

Six Flags 600 Minutes Reading Club
  • Student must read a total of 600 minutes.
  • Students who submit tally sheets receive a coupon for a free admission ticket to Great America.
Ozzie’s Reading Club
  • Program runs eight weeks.
  • Students submit forms every two weeks.
  • Students receive prizes for each base attained.
  • Students who hit a "home run" by making their goal all four times earn a free ticket to a Kane County Cougars baseball game.

Remember, it is okay to double dip. Apply the same minutes to both of our reading incentives! For more information about any of these programs, contact your child's teacher or Mrs. Curtis.
