The ceilings of Gombert Elementary School are proof
that great artwork doesn’t belong just on walls.
Each year, members of
the fifth grade art club paint on large sheets of butcher paper to
create their own stylized version of a famous work. The club’s sponsor,
Mrs. Gleason, then covers ceiling tiles with the students’ masterpieces.
What began as a fun way to decorate the art room has expanded to include
the hallways and the library as each year’s paintings are added to those
of students who are now in high school and beyond.
