Traffic Safety

Kindergarten Students

Briarwood, Eagle Trace and Hunter's Ridge

Colony Lakes

The Meadows

SAFETY of all students is our primary concern. While some of our rules may not be the most convenient for drivers, they are designed for the safety of children who will be walking, riding busses or being dropped off and picked up. Please note the differences in the drop off and pick up procedures. Thanks to the members of the PTA Safety Committee, Alderman Beykirck and Ron Ford from the City of Aurora who helped us devise the routes for our walking students.

General Traffic Rules

  1. All students will enter the building upon arrival, between 8:50 and 9:05 a.m., and proceed to their classrooms. There will be no supervision on the playground. Children will be supervised in the building.
  2. Walkers are encouraged to use the routes established. Children should respect neighbors’ property and not cut through yards. Students arriving behind the school will enter through the doors located in the back of the school toward the center of the building. Students who cross Ridge Avenue must cross with the crossing guard at the crosswalk near the front of the school and enter through the doors located in the front northeast corner of the building by the Kindergarten rooms.
  3. Bikes and rollerblades need to be used safely. Bikes need to be walked and rollerblades need to be carried on school property. LOCKS are necessary and should be easily operated by your child. The use of safety helmets is strongly recommended.
  4. If children are driven to school, they may be dropped off on Natalie Drive or in the school parking lot (see map). For pick up drivers must use the parking lot. Natalie Drive cannot accommodate the volume of dismissal traffic. A crossing guard will be at the sidewalk on Natalie Drive to assist the students.
  5. Students may not stay and play on the playground after school. We realize that you want to know where your children are.
  6. CHANGES IN NORMAL DISMISSAL PLANS NEED TO BE IN WRITING OR COMMUNICATED TO A PERSON IN THE OFFICE BEFORE 3:00. Your child’s safety is our concern. Do not assume a message left on voicemail will be heard before dismissal.
DROP OFF AND PICK UP PROCEDURES (Back to top)

Cars need to make a RIGHT turn only into the parking lot. The circular drive in front of the building is for day care vans and buses only!

Cars are to be driven single file into the parking lot drop off lane, proceed to the drop off points and have children exit the car. Continue back to Ridge Road.

When picking up students, cars will line up single file in the lane, and students will enter the cars at pick up points around the circle . THIS WILL BE DONE IN SINGLE FILE. When you have all the students you need to pick up, you may carefully pull to the outer lane to exit the parking lot.

When waiting in line, please take care not to block side streets, crosswalks or driveways.

A.M. Students will be dropped off as described above. They will be picked up in the front circular drive.

P.M. Students will be dropped off in the front circular drive. They will be picked up from the drop off/pick up lane at the parking lot.
